            最初来源于当地的部落名Illiniwek,简称Illini(就是University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign的那个绰号Fighting Illini),意思是“战斗的民族”。后来法国人来了,按法语的习惯,在地名的词后加上了ois这个词缀。
