Connecticut，又译康乃迪克州。最初，该名称出自美国东北部的莫西干语言，写作Quinnituqut，是一条河流的名字，字面意思是“海潮倒灌的河流”。后来该地建成英属殖民地，英国人根据原文的发音和英文的习惯，将该词改写成Connecticut。再往后建立康涅狄格州时沿用此名，是美国第一个以河流为名的州。后来有好几个州效仿，以河流为名，包括上文的阿拉巴马州、阿肯色州和科罗拉多州。
